In Villabuena de Álava, home to Hotel Viura, almost every family owns or works at a winery. "Land of Wine," they call La Rioja. And it's true; it is the land and culture of wine: tradition, passion and know-how.
El Viura wells up like a volcanic eruption next to the village church. Whimsically stacked cubes embedded in the hillside stone make first-time visitors to our hotel feel like they're standing before a sculpture and not a building. A sculpture that melds into its surroundings, incorporating roots from the past (physically and emotionally) in the form of ancient secret escape tunnels that we have turned into part of our winery.
Our rooms are large, much larger than normal. We aren’t lacking in space, and we wanted to share the benefits with our guests. Rooms where Brutalist concrete and the Basque love for wood and noble materials live side-by-side. Rooms with large windows to gaze out over this privileged setting. Welcome to Viura, the perfect starting point to experience this Land of Wine.
No matter where you're coming from, to reach Viura, you have to cross fields and vineyards. A sea of vineyards that changes every day with the seasons, surrounding small clusters of homes crowned by a bell tower. Ancient, toiled lands.
We are in Rioja Alavesa, Basque Country, the land of wines and good eats. Ranging from pintxos to txuletones, we have conceived the most delicious, avant-garde fare that is recognised all around the world. It is difficult to find any other place that is better for food and drink. Villabuena is no exception, and neither is our hotel. Walking down a stairway, you will find our Cuisine Restaurant. This is where chef Javier Alesanco has created a journey through the flavours of this land for even the most exacting of diners. With respect (almost worship) for local seasonal products, this journey reaches its pinnacle in the Tasting Menu that can be enjoyed every day, with slight variations. The market and the land have a mind of their own, and we don't like to contradict them. Those who prefer to hold back a bit also have a menu that will not disappoint.WINE AND CULINARY EXPERIENCES
